James T. Shoptaw, DDS, MSD
James T. Shoptaw, DDS, MSD is a board-certified pediatric dentist with over 30 years of experience serving children in the Temple, Killeen, and Fort Hood areas of Central Texas. He opened his practice in Temple in 1976 and in Killeen in 1979. Following a brief retirement, Dr. Shoptaw has reopened Children’s Dental Center—a name parents have trusted for years to provide a fun, friendly environment with continuing quality dental care that includes all areas of pediatric dentistry.
Dr. Shoptaw and his staff are very appreciative of our military families and are happy to be Tricare military insurance providers. Additionally, the office also welcomes patients who are enrolled in the Medicaid program.
Dr. Shoptaw attended Highland Park High School in Dallas. He is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a degree in chemistry. After receiving his dental degree from Baylor College of Dentistry, he completed his pediatric dental residency at Children’s Medical Center and Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas.
Dr. Shoptaw is a past president of the Central Texas Dental Society, Paul P. Taylor Association of Pediatric Dentistry, and Texas Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He has been chosen by his peers as a Texas Monthly Super Dentist for nine consecutive years. He regularly volunteers his time for Temple/Killeen free clinics, as well as the Texas Mission of Mercy and Smiles Across Texas programs. Dr. Shoptaw’s son and daughter-in-law are teachers and reside in Austin.
